Do I have to purchase textnow to use it on iPhone, or is it totally free?

I just downloaded this application..
I'm not entirely sure if it charged me because on the Internet it says free, but I just want to make sure it didn't charge me anything..

Another thing,
if I send a picture to another mobile phone,
and the other phone has an unlimited picture messanging plan,
does it mean it's free for both of us?
