2-year contract?? I have a Verizon Wireless two-year mobile contract, with a Motorola RAZR through my father's discount through Northrop Grumman (his employer).

Do I have to pay full retail price to upgrade my phone from my RAZR to a Blackberry Pearl (I'm in the middle of the contract), even with the online discount (with online discount, Pearl is free with 2-yr contract online.

Its only free if you get a 2 yr contract which you already have. Its for new customers only. You might or might not have to pay retail price. It depends how long youve been with Verizon. So the middle might be a year? You would get a partial discount not a full discount so almost full retail price, but not quite. If your looking for something cheaper go on craigslist.com and check out the Pearls people are selling. Btw the Pearl is really expensive almost 400 dollars retail price!

If you are ready for your annual upgrade, you'll get promo pricing - right now, in some retailers it's $100 up front, with a $100 MIR - so its free.

The NE2 discount simply gives you more of a discount (which wouldnt matter with the Pearl anyway, because you have to pay at least the MIR)

If you aren't ready for an annual upgrade, then yes, you'll have to pay retail price for Pearl unless you find it elsewhere.

Verizon always makes you pay full price without a contract unless they are running a special. try Ebay.
