do i have to have insurance on a car i don't drive?

i live in Texas. i have an old car that i never use and used to just leave it in the parking lot of my apartment complex. everything on it is up-to-date including registration and inspection but i cut the ins on it cause i don't drive it any more. recently our apartment started work on the parking lot to seal coat it. they left us notices to move our cars on the 4th and 5th. i did and put it back on the 7th. today is the 8th. i come home from work and find my car is gone...and the parking lot is empty. if they towed the car, would it be held against me that it was not insured? considering it was not on the road and was parked and hardly used... im so aggravated right now... i just want tomorrow to get here so i can call my lawyer, and see if we have a case. cause this is absurd. i cant find my car anywhere. i haven't called the cops yet cause im hoping the apartment complex can tell me tomorrow where my car is as they are closed right now.
 
for it to be registerd it has to be inshured or the state will pull the regestration and it will be red flaged and if the cops come thru checking it will get towed only time it wont is if it is on privet property off the street
