Do I have potential to be a photographer?

I would like to go to college for some sort of photography (possibly photo-journalism since I also like to write) and I was wondering if I have what it takes? I've only been taking photos for about a week and my camera is a little(ok a lot) lacking in quality. Please don't cut me any slack and give my any criticism, I can handle it. just please don't flame. I know a lot of the pictures are boring but I take pictures of anything and everything that catches my eye. haha. :)
I never left my neighbor hood for any of the photos but I want to go downtown soon and take some more.
