Do I have gout? Is there a simple way to treat it without a doctor?

So I am a male, 17, 6'1", and 200lbs (I don't know if any of that is important)
Last summer, around June, I started getting sharp pain at the joint in my right side big toe. I get them about every month or so and the flares typically last about 2-14 days, and i can get them up to about 5 times a month. at first i thought maybe i broke my toe since it hurt too much to move for the first month. Anyway, today at school, i went to ask my school nurse for a couple Ibuprofen because my toe was hurting. After taking the 2 pills, she asked me a few questions such as "how long does the pain typically last?", "when did this start?", and "how bad does it hurt?" After answering all her questions, she finally said "it may be gout, you should probably go get that checked out by a doctor." I don't have a specified doctor, and my insurance is crap, so i as wondering if anyone on here knows if this is gout, and if so, can i fix it without going to the doctors. (i read that they may have to administer some test for it that include getting fluid samples, but i hate needles, and it probably wouldn't be a good idea for a urine test.)
no, my shoes are even a size too big, so i doubt thats the problem
