Hi,

New to this board so bear with me. Over the last couple of years I have had bouts of a feeling of shortness of breath. I put this down to stress etc. More recently I have linked it to having what i feel is a blocked nose which causes a feeling that I cannot breath properly.

I thought it was just the fact that I always breath through my nose even when blocked so was not getting enough air in hence causing this feeling in my chest.

However I went to see my doctor and he has said that I have cronic Rhinitis and asthma which are both linked.

Does anyone else suffer this?.

Well, I have just been diagnosed with asthma as well and think I have had it my whole life, but this last week, I have been having more trouble catching my breath. I also have chronic rhinitis, so maybe it is connected. I have not asked a doctor that, though, so it's just my own opinion. I hope you feel better.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, according to my GP they are related. The think is when my nose clears I dont have any chest issues. I can also play sports and say walk the dog for a couple of miles without any reaction even when I am suffering. I guest this is because i breath through my mouth.

What machine are you taking for the Rhintis?. I have antihisimes (have probably spelt that wrong) and nasal spray.

I should take zyrtek or claritan, but I am putting it off as long as possible, I really hate taking anything. I have proventil to use as needed, (just got the first one two weeks ago) and of course, am waiting to try it too. I am having some trouble catching my breath and am not wheezing though, so i dont' really know what to do. What are you taking for yours?

Not a lot, take antihistamines (spelt that wrong i know), flaxonase nostril spray and an inhaler.

Yes, chronic rhinitis is often related to asthma. I take nasonex spray as well as antihistamines, alongside my other asthma meRAB which helps to keep the rhinitis at bay.
Good luck with your symptoms.

Thanks for the reply, I have actually found someone with the same symptoms as me and its my sister. She works as an ENT nurse and has asked the consultants about rhinitis and there is little they can do other than take the meRAB. I am currently trying nasal flushing with warm salt water which does seem to have cleared it up a little.
