I am currently employed at fast food resturaunt and have not been working there long.
Firstly, They have my wait to punch in, and everyone else that is hourly employed. Let me give you an example:
My shift starts at 5PM on monday. I show up at 4:50PM and I am told to sit there and wait by my manager until customers come into the store. 5:30 rolls around and he finally tells me to clock in. I've lost 30 minutes of work on this monday.
This has happened to me and everyone else that is employed at this place of employment. I have tallied up my "waiting time" and I've added up 8 hours of waiting to punch in in the 4 weeks that I have been employed. I am currently trying to contact the deparment of labor on this matter.
Secondly, I have been instructed by my manager to post date the meat.
Let me give another example:
We have date dots that we fill out ever time we open a new package of meat. Every night we check the date dots that we put on the bins and if it expires tomorrows date or the next day we write up a new date dot saying that we opened it on tomorrows date... and the expiration date from tomorrow...... it is rediculous... ill be the first to admit it and i work there... when my manager told me this i was disgusted... let me give u an example if you dont understand
today is monday 1.1.09. i look at the turkey breast date dot and it was opened on 12.31.08 and has a 48 hour shelf life and expires 1.2.09. I tear off the date dot. put that I opened it on 1.2.09 and put that it expires on 1.4.09. and put it back in the cooler.
I have 2 other employees that do this as well and know it is wrong. Do you think this is enough of a problem to file a lawsuit against this company?
thanks for your answers in advance
