Yes. First decide what analog channel you want your system to use. Your choices are 3 or 4. If you have a strong local analog station on 3, choose 4, or vice versa. (After Feb. 17th it won't matter in the U.S.)
Now, set the output of your converter to channel 3 (for example). Connect the output antenna jack to the antenna "in" jack on your VCR. Set your VCR's tuner to channel 3 and leave it there permanently. Set your TV's tuner to channel 3 and leave it there permanently.
Select the desired digital channel with your converter's remote, look for a good picture on your TV, then program your VCR for the desired time span (don't change the channel!). You have to leave the converter and VCR as-is until the recording is completed.
Note that with this arrangement, you can't record one channel while watching another. There's a way to do that if your converter has 2 ATSC tuners, but few do.
