Do Dalmatian mixes have the ability to smile?

I know most purebreds Dalmatians have the physical muscles to smile, where it looks like they are snarling, but would a Dalmatian mix have that ability? I'm thinking about adopting a Dalmatian/Pointer mix and she is as cute as can be. If she can't it's no big deal, I just want to show my mother because she dosen't believe me when I say Dalmatians can actually smile.
