Do crossbikes have higher fuel consumption than bikes with the same engine size?

I'm thinking of buying a Honda CRF100F crossbike and was a bit surprised to see that the average consumtion is like 1.7 gallons which may not sound like a lot in the US but in Europe it's an issue due to fuel prices. On the other hand a naked 125cc has the consumption of 0.7 gallon average. Any idea what the reason is for the crossbikes to have such a high consumption? Thanks guys
