Do conservatives recognize that they've won the debate over abortion and guns?

Although the Democrats are still the same old gun-grabbing pro-abortion party as they've always been, they have rhetorically moderated their stance significantly.

The fact that President Obama, who was a staunch advocate of gun control while a state legislator, portrayed himself as an advocate of "hunter's rights" and claimed to have no desire to take away the guns that millions of Americans own, shows that the liberals recognize that they've lost the debate over guns. The fact that Obama pretends to support reducing the number of abortions, even though he reversed the Mexico City Policy and even though the Democrats voted down the amendment to prevent ObamaCare from covering abortion, is a sign that the liberals know they've lost the debate on the abortion issue as well.

Obviously, these are smoke screens and the Democratic Party is still the same old party, but the fact that they have to resort to deception and obscurantism on the issues of abortion and guns shows that they know that they've lost the debate. This is a stall tactic designed to prevent Roe v. Wade from being overturned and full 2nd Amendment rights from being restored.

As far as I'm concerned we won major battles for gun control. I just wanted responsibility not an outright ban on guns.

Abortion? Sure, no one ever wanted more abortions. You know how to prevent an unwanted abortion? Prevent an unwanted pregnancy. How hard is that to understand? And you idolize people like Palin that preach abstinence only? What a joke.
