I read an article in some outdoorsy magazine about 20 years or so ago. It was an editorial, in which the author described a hiking trip in Colorado. He was on a mountain trail, and spotted a lone individual about a mile or so ahead of him, and basically watched him for several hours. This individual had brought with him a plastic trash bag, and was stopping along the way to pick up discarded candy wrappers and whatnot.
Now, this, to me, is caring about the environment.
So, after a few hours, they reached a sort of way-station, where that individual had stopped to rest before going on.
It was Dan Quayle.
