Do colleges recognize sports you compete in outside of high school?

they will want to know what you do outside of school so you will be able to tell them that you are very passionate about horseback riding

Yes, colleges want to know EVERYTHING you do. Basically, they ask you about outside activities because they want to know your passion and to make sure you just don't go to school then go home and watch Maury for the rest of the day.

However, I do recommend something like cross country if your time is limited; practices last a short amount of time (usually an hour) and also look good on an application.

I am very passionate about horseback riding. It is extremely time-consuming and I have little time to participate in other activities. I am in a few clubs but will colleges realize I am spending my time wisely instead of slumming on a couch? I am only a sophmore, but I am still very concerned about college.

(Also is it too much of a reach to get into Boston College or U of Michigan with a 3.8 weighted GPA?)
