When a famous actor like Tom Hanks or a singer like Eminem appears on a chat show like Friday Night with Jonathan Ross to promote their new film or album, do they get paid for that appearance? They should be paid because they are generating more viewers for the show, but then again, they are essentially advertising a product and so they should pay the show for letting them do that. Or do they just not get paid and it's a case of, "you get to advertise your film/book/album and we get a big guest on our show"? I have always wondered how this works.
