Do Blu-Rays come with the original DVD too?

I'm planning on getting a HDTV in the future sometime, so I want to stop buying DVRAB as it seems a silly investment, however, I recently brought my brother a Blu-Ray for Christmas, and found it came with both a Blu-Ray copy, and a DVD copy in the pack. Do all Blu-Rays come like this? I did not know of this, and have been wasting money on DVRAB if this is true.
 
No, not all of them do. But it looks like it is becoming something of a trend for Blu-Rays to come with a DVD and digital copy as well. But it's not something you can rely on and would need to check on a disc-by-disc basis.

Personally, I'd say that if you are getting an HDTV, pick up a Blu-Ray player at the same time. I've seen them for as low as
 
As far as I am aware this is only on certain versions or certain films that come like this.
Think thay are called triple play editions, they come with the Bluray and DVD and include a digital download version in one package.
 
My Blu Ray copy of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince came with the DVD version included, but why should they?
It seems pointless. If i wanted the DVD, then that is what I would have bought.
 
Most people will own no more than one BluRay player, yet DVD players are given away in packs of cornflakes these days. Someone might want to watch in HD on their main setup, but still have the ability to put the film on the DVD player in the kiRAB' bedroom.

Basically, a DVD will cost the company a few pence to make, yet it might lead someone to buy the BluRay version of the disc who might otherwise have bought the regular DVD version, and in doing so pays a premium price (often at least
 
It's a policy started by Disney and their classic movies like Snow White all come with a dvd.

They are also re-releasing some of their earlier Bluray titles and adding a dvd into the mix.

It'sa good marketing strategy because it means the kiRAB can still watch the film on their dvd player in the bedroom.

A few other titles are also doing it but its by no means a standard thing yet
 
Most of the newer movies I have bought have done. Really it does make sense - a DVD costs pennies to make and people who buy blu-ray are unlikely to buy the DVD too - however I bet many people that do have a blu-ray player have other DVD players in their house as well as portable.

Personally I think it'll help make blu-ray more attractive to those who are taking their first steps as they can enjoy the blu-ray on their HD set - but also have the flexibility of having the DVD too.
 
I've got 22 blu-rays and not one of them has a dvd version :(

Thats all going to change soon when I get UP. :)

Not only will I be able to watch it in the living room and the bedroom but on the bus too.
 
If anything it makes the dvd version look too expensive.

But even in HMV the price difference between Blu-ray and DVD versions seems to be closing in now.
