They don't sleep as you do, but they do rest. Bettas are known to even lay at the bottom of the tank or on plants.As for the light, they really prefer non-direct light. As for color change? usually by the time you've gotten him, a betta is over that. They do go through some change when growing. If it loses all it color or goes pale, then its being stressed or is ill. You might feed it some color enhancing food, there afre several available, it might enhance his color some and it might appear to of changed. i brought a betta that i thought was more of a silver black. After getting it home and putting it in a heated tank, it colored up o a dark blue.
