Exaclty what the title says! Well? I think it can to a degree... for example the matrix is the best of the trilogy, and it has been ruined slightly by the fact dissatifying sequels have been made, as it could have stood on its own fine.
Also, Nightmare on Elm St.- I saw no.3 before I saw no.1, and even though no.1 isn't amazingly well done, it upholRAB 'classic' status but every sequel they real off makes it worth less.
However where I feel this doesn't apply is in bad disney films. Its annoying they churn off these low quality sequels, but I never watch them so never get disappointed!
