HIGH CULTURE - not as high as Shakespeare, Chaucer and Milton, but certainly high enough to make Sherlock Holmes one of the most famous persons who never lived, along with Hamlet, Dracula (yeah I know there was a real Vlad the Impaler yada-yada-yada) Robinson Crusoe etc. "Low Culture" does not remain in continuous publication decades after the authors' death, does not inspire over a hundred movies and TV shows and does not result in societies such as "The Baker St Irregulars" who still study and investigate "The Master's" real (ie stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) and alleged adventures. "Low Culture" also does not inspire literally hundreds of books written about Holmes not to mention all the stories and novels written about him by authors besides Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
