Do all Toyota's do this?

My friend and I both have Toyota Corolla's . Mine is a 1999, his an '03 but on both of ours the outer door handles have broken off and some of the plastic and gaskets around the door are deteriorating. I have already had to replace my steering wheel because it disintegrated. I am buying another car soon and was thinkin Toyota, do all have this problem?

My family has 2 1989 Camry's, a 1986 Corolla, and a 2002 Camry and we've never had problems with any of the door handles. Toyotas did have better quality in the past though, so newer models might not be as sturdy as the 80's cars.

I had a friend who had a mid-'90s Camry, and his door handles did the same thing.

The steering wheel problem is not unique to Toyotas. I had a Nissan pickup whose steering wheel disintegrated. I just bought one of those cheapo steering wheel covers out of the local auto parts store-- problem solved.

If you like Toyota, go with them. Just be easy on the door handles. In the grand scheme of things, though, these are small problems. What you really ought to be worried about is the engine and drive train reliability. Toyota has a pretty good record there, even though their quality ratings have been slipping in recent years as they've been challenging GM for the top car sales crown.

My dad has a 2000 corolla and we went to a junkyard to buy a glovebox latch. When I asked if they had any 2000 Corollas in the junkyard and that i needed a glovebox latch the attendant asked if I was there to look for door latches. I said no, I needed a glovebox latch. The attendant assumed I needed a door latch because from experience he said that the door handles(ext.) break easily from getting toasted by the sun and that a lot of people ask for them.
Maybe an aftermarket replacement might be sturdier than its OEM equivalent. Check to see if Dormanproducts.com or HELP! accessories has replacement door handles.

actually, i have never heard of that happening.

the only time a door handle broke on one of our toyota's was because of our own fault. the lock was frozen inside cause it was winter, and my dad tried to open it by pulling on it with a lotta force, and i broke. but it was our fault.
