Do active sports make your period come later?

I do gymnastics a lot! I haven't had my first period yet, is it true that gymnastics can make it later?
Because there was a question where someone asked 'when did you get your fist period?' One girl said that shes 16 and she still hasn't gotten it and its probably because of all the gymnastics/dance/karate/running she does...
 
I have never heard of that. I doubt that its true. The time your period will come is purely up to mother nature and heriditary.
