i want to take my daughter on vacation in september but i am not sure where were going to go and i am debaiting a road trip or someplace farther away. how well do toddlars travel? the road trip wold be about 7 hours (CA) and the plane about 3 or 4 hours.

They both have there upsides.

Car- Well, the kid can move around a lot more, be loud, you know without really annoying anybody. Also, if you need to pull over for emergencies that the child has.

Plane- Well, she might be nervous! She might get antsy, and it will be harder to change her diaper and stuff. Also, they might not be to entertained. I think she is to young personally.

:D

i work as a flight attendant right now and 2yr olds really do drive us mad when the parents aren't controlling their child! stop expecting flight attendants to have spare diapers, formula, medicine or toys. take your kid to the restroom before you board. leave the dry cereal and legos at home and bring snacks and toys for your kids that won't make a horrible mess.

but san diego california is a GREAT place to go!! especially during the summer. check out seaport village, the zoo, balboa park (free on tuesdays), coronado, and the beautiful many many beaches and great dining!!!

but take a plane and rent out a car...haha

Plane is safer and better for kids. You don't have to use random bathrooms to change diapers and MCDonnalds to eat.
If your kid is less than 2 years old, it is free. I flew with my 2 years old daughter many times, the airport officials never asked any papers for the kid (domestic flights). So they can take your word for the age.
I took my daughter to hawaii (12 hours on the plane, including 1 stop). She was great, except she didn't go ti toilet by herself. If you didn't fly with your baby yet, make sure s/he use the toilet as normal. Kids may think it is not possible in the sky.

Just give them some baby nyquil before you're ready to go and they'll sleep right through either car or plane. :)

I would do plane, just because it's quicker.

It's only a few hours. It would probably be less stress to take a car for that short of difference between the two (and less money).. Might depend on how well your toddler travels by car already. They'll probably end up sleeping half the trip anyway.

If it is only 7 hours then I would suggest car. You can avoid a cranky child by leaving around 6:30 or 7pm. She will sleep most of the way. It will make the trip easier for the both of you.
Planes are nice but it is not worth the ears popping, pricey ticket and germs you will have to put up with. If you were going from coast to coast then it would be worth it but not for a short trip.
I wouldn't put my 2 year old on a plane. Most flight are in the middle of the day and 3 or 4 hours is a long time to remain seated. At least in a car you have the option to stop at a park and burn off some energy if you choose to drive during the day. Also if you have a laptop or mobile dvd player a few kiddie shows makes time go by faster. We took our sons Bob the Builder dvd. He was tuned in until he fell asleep.
