Dizziness

My husband went for a stress test and Echo and they both showed the heart was really good. He has been diagnosed with vasovaal (type of orthostatic intolerance). At the ER, they said the b/p dropped alot when he stood up and also the doctor also said he has oi.

Now they are going to do the tilt table test for OI and they're also checking his neck--the ultrasound to see if there's any carotid arteries.

My question is--I know carotid arteries cause dizziness. But does carotid arteries cause b/p to drop when standing up or is that just due to OI?

Yes, it can be from atherosclerosis in the carotids - but usually there are no symptoms. Stroke is often the first sign of carotid artery disease.

My guess would be some form of dysautonomia. "Vasovagal syncope" is just medical jargon for fainting.

Thank-you for your reply.

The Cardiologist listened to his neck and thought he may have heard something. But that's why he was getting the ultrasound done on the neck as well as the tilt table test.

He hasn't fainted from the OI. He just gets very, very dizzy if he stands up too fast from sitting.

But I didn't know if there maybe carotid arteries causing this since the doctor may have heard something in the neck.
