Dizziness/Light-headed sensation for days

What could cause a person to feel what he describes as a constant state of mild dizziness or light-headedness? He says he feelings it throughout the day and sitting down doesn't make it better, but sometimes it seems to get better after drinking coffee (??), and it's not due to dehydration (drinks plenty of water.) He's not taking any medication.
I'm looking for ideas...
So far I've thought of: low blood pressure, some kind of inner ear imbalance, or stress.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

did he recently stop any foods, for example did he lower his caffeine intake. Or has he stopped any medications, or added anything to his diet? What is "plenty of water"? If he's urinating a lot he might be dehydrated even though drinking plenty of water. He probably needs to go to the doc and rule out an inner ear infection...and go from there.

Has the thyroid been checked with blood tests? Also, low blood pressure and/or anemia can cause the sensations you described. Please let us know what you find.
