DIY Valve Adjustment

I want to do this myself. I have the shop manual and all the tools required, but would like the assistance of someone who has done it.

Any one out there in the SoCal area willing to help me out (I'm in the militray if that helps), I'm willing to pay you for you time, or give you some beer. Which ever.

I am about to do mine for the first time (34,500 kms, just out of warranty), having done valve adjustment on earlier models for 35 years. What you will need is a range of replacement shims, as Ducati doesn't supply them individually (well, not over here anyway). I have been in contact with Mike at EMS to this end, who is working up a kit to suit the 1098. If you aren't aware, the shims on these are different to earlier models. If you have already got some sizes (etched on shim) Mike would be interested, as he wants to narrow down the sizes they come with, as we are only just getting into this as warranties expire.
 
I won't be joining him either, as I am also on another coast (South Australia). Haven't figured how to put my location on here. I entered it in the registry but it doesn't come up on here.


P.S. The only clue is my avatar is taken at Phillip Island..

And thanks Nismo, that seems to be working now. That info. was in there, but I seem to have kickstarted it (like an old SS!).
 
Well, not all of us who have actually gotten our hands dirty on these engines live in SoCal. If you were in Colorado, I would take you up on your offer.

These engines are a piece of cake to get into and work on, unlike some of the previous generations of Ducati motors.

Just finished the valve adjustment this weekend, two valves on the front cylinder were too tight and needed the shims shaved. All in all this is a easy service to do. Thanks to XcesiveSlyd (Chris) for the help! I'll post a How-To soon so you don't make the same mistakes we did!
