Dissecting a rat in biology?

Next week we are supposed to dissect a rat in biology. I have very strong anti-cruelty beliefs, am a vegetarian, and on top of it I have a pet rat at home. I (tried) to speak to my teacher about alternatives but she said "There are no alternatives, It is a group project, I don't expect you to do the cutting...... just watch" Is there anyway I can get out of it besides skipping class for a week (which I am prepared to do if necessary)? Is there a free online sim I could show my teacher?

I live in Illinois if that matters.
 
In India, rat dissections are banned in schools, thanks to environment ministry notification 12 to 13 years ago
well i am a vegetarain too with no cruelty to animal beliefs
but I had to dissect animals in school and college, at times kill them myself
Had to do it for studies sake
no choice, if u wish to major in bio, u will have to adjust
But be careful, which u will be, to never waste an animal.
 
unfortunately sometimes you just don't have any choice.
I had to do the whole dissection by myself last week because the girls in my group were too scared to do it.
the smell was the worst thing about it to me.
 
Well it seems like you have done the right thing talking to your teacher. Did you tell her you had strong animal cruelty beliefs? I am not sure if there is an online sim. Sorry I can't help.
