Display Laptop on TV?

I have an issue I have a Toshiba satellite laptop that the keyboard and monitor do not work. The computer worked just fine before my son stepped on the laptop and broke the screen. Well I can connect my laptop to my TV to get all my important information off the Laptop. The only problem is that I cant get the display to come up on the TV. Does anyone have any suggestions?
The only issue that I have is getting the display from the computer to the monitor or tv. Because my keyboard is broke I am unable to use the "FN" button to switch display output on my laptop. Any Logical competent answers will be greatly appreciated.
 
if you have a desk top use the monitor to view the contents of the lap top via the External monitor port on the back of the lap top .
