disney's new movie rapunzel - first trailer

Apparently 'Rapunzel' means almost nothing to most of the World - only Europe, North America, Oz really know its a fairytale.

There is also some doubts at Disney over the performance of The Princess and the Frog - suggestions that boys were put off my the fairytale princess stuff.

So they changed the name to Tangled and the main male character will feature very heavily in the promotion now too.

That's stupid and ridiculous reasoning by Disney. It's a name, it dosn't have to mean anything to anybody. You think Mulan, Pochahontas, Lilo and Stitch, Bambi, Dumbo ect. resonated across the globe and everybody knew what they were about?

Don't want to go into the politics here, but Disney has never lost money by being in tune and pandering to the latest "pc" offensive. ;)

it is stupid. rapunzel would probably lose more money being tangled than it would rapunzel and most of the disney movies are female centered anyway.

i hope they see sense and change it back before its release

Calm down!

There is nothing politically correct about it! They are not doing it to avoid offending anyone. Just looking for the right name for something so most people will get it. It's becoming harder to market these films.

Disney Animation is under the guidance of Pixar's John Lassiter now - he rescued 'Bolt' from being a disaster and turned it into quite a good film and he was the one that pushed them back into handrawn animation for the 'Princess and the Frog'.

He knows what he is doing.

I think when people see a proper trailer they will understand the name change - other than featuring the character Rapunzel, the story is quite different.

the male led disney films dont do as well as the female led ones though. i think that is what people are saying. eg: tarzan..

but i still cant wait for it

Saw it the other day (for the billionth time), sooooo good.:D
Hercules was another.

I just think Tarzan was a bit weak, not so much who the lead was.

I don't think this is entirely true. Although when you think of Disney you automatically think of the famous Disney princesses; if you look at the most popular Disney films, they don't all have a female lead.

Beauty and the Beast - I'd say it was pretty even with Belle and The Beast
Aladdin - Male led
The Lion King - Male led (Simba)
The Little Mermaid - Female led (Ariel)

I can't wait for Tangled and if The Princess and the Frog is anything to go by, it's going to be brilliant. :)

Not wanting to nit pick .... but I'm going to! lol

That's not the official Tangled logo for starters. This is:

Plus the shot of Rapunzel at the very end is from early test footage from about 4 years ago (back when it was called Rapunzel: Unbraided). Here's an official shot of Rapnuzel (Mandy Moore) and Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi):

However, that "trailer" does seem to have some footage as the tower looks correct.

Nerd rant over. :)

yea a leaked trailer is a weird thing.
dunno either they screwed up and thats an early trial or mockup or its a weird way to spread stuff on the internet on purpose.

that is the real trailer. the image at the end is added on but everything else is real

it is on the princess and the frog usa dvd release

Really not liking that they've changed the name to 'Tangled' however I can see their reasoning. I agree that I can't see many young boys asking their mums to see a film called Rapunzel. Maybe the average success of 'The Princess and the Frog' caused them to do this.
