Toy Story Sequels
Further adventures of Woody and Buzz?

October 06, 2004 - Disney CEO Michael Eisner has revealed that the company will create two additional installments in the Toy Story franchise. NY Newsday has a report from a Goldman Sachs investment conference in Manhattan where Eisner said, "We're doing two 'Toy Stories' at once."

The partnership between Disney and Pixar terminates after the release of Cars in 2005, and the Mouse will be free to make sequels of their own.

A Disney spokeswoman expanded on Eisner's comments, telling the paper, "They're working on different story ideas with the hopes there will be a Toy Story 3 and another after that." A Pixar spokeswoman declined to comment.

Online reports have hinted that the story for the sequel(s) may be derived from the ending of the original treatment for Toy Story, which tells what happens to the toys when Andy grows up. In the original treatment, the toys find a permanent home in a preschool, where there will always be children to play with.

Come on you saw this coming right? Disney gave up 2D for 3D and what better films to start with but more sequels for the Pixar films. Disney are known for milking their best properties, every one of their animated features seems to have a sequel now. I wouldnt be suprised if more Pixar films are given sequels like the Incredibles and definately Finding Nemo.

So what do you think of this? Some people have already made comments along the lines of "why can't Disney just leave them alone - I mean come on".

I can't belive they are try this without Pixar... That's a bad move, although as you say, not an unsurprising one...

I really don't like the Corporate Machine that the Eisner (evil... EVILLLL!!) has turned Disney into over the last few years. I'll be so glad when he finally leaves, and hopefully they will appoint someone creative, with some vison, not a money grabbing whore like Eisner. (Why does Mikey Mouse have 4 fingers? So he can't pick up the cheque.)

Sequels to Toy Story is fine with me, I just cant believe they dont wanna do more 2d stuff.

How do they make a sequel of FN???

lol you're aware how big of a hit it was, it brought in the largest money so I was suprised that wasnt their first choice from the start but it looks like they're going with Toy Story despite there already being a sequel. I think maybe Nemo will get lost again or maybe his dad :) I'm sure they'll come up with something.

Toy Story is Pixar in a way., if you get my drift.

Thats the film that got them world wide regonition and I think those films (TS 1 and 2) are the msot popular films they have done, they may not of made most money but they just seemed to have something about them.

Toy Story 3 and 4 need Pixar :( Disney could running the whole Toy Story series.

Maybe they'd keep the characters but ditch the name. Finding Nemo 2 or something lame like that is stupid. Use Dory, Nemo, Marlin etc. in a new adventure, preferably not getting each other lost.

Well, can't say I like the idea of no Pixar but I loved Toy Story and thought Toy Story 2 was even better. It has a great set of characters and I would welcome a 3rd & 4th. Hope I'm not disappointed .... mind you, will be more money spent, I have a 3 yr old girl who loves them both (which is why I watch them both on average 4 times a week!!!) and no doubt she will want any new characters introduced to add to her current Toy Story collection! :)

Does anyone see Tom Hanks sticking around for a 3rd and 4th? I wouldnt have thought so espcially as these might be direct to video (I believe Toy Story 2 was going to be but then they released it in cinemas instead) so who knows could be different people.

This has the sound of politics about it. It was announced by Eisner, who is stepping down in less than 2 years now (i can't remember the date).

In other worRAB they can say - oh well things have changed. I think this is an attempt to get Pixar back to the negotiating table. It isn't going to happen whilst Eisner is still there, but the moment he goes, I can see Pixar knocking on the door saying - "can we get involved with the sequels please" and negotiations will open.

Having said all that - Disney are releasing on dvd at Christmas Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas - an entirely cgi animation film with Mickey Mouse, Pluto and Goofy, so they don't actuallyu need Pixar - it depenRAB on how much Pixar feel they need Disney to develop.

I have to disagree, Pixar are strongly against doing a 3rd and 4th, infact they prefer not to make sequels at all.

Also Disney got rid of both their 2D animation departments, so they're going to do 3D movies anyway (and they have with one called Chicken Little) so they might as well do the Pixar sequels and get all the money.

Pixar only want Disney to distribute their films but only for a small percentage of the profit. This is because Disney is still the big studio, they can easily do merchandise and distribution all over the world. However until Michael Eisner is gone no talks are going to happen.

Surely Pixar has the overall right to prevent this from happening, to threaten Disney with copyright infringement? As the characters were all invented by its employees and Disney was just the money man??

I didn't know the voice for Slinky died either. :(

I rekon Tom Hanks would stick around for it, he seems a nice guy and just makes Woody!

I also find it hard to believe they were going to send TOY STORY 2 straight to video..... they take so long to make and it was in demand so it wouldnt be logical. Also I like these pixar movies as because they have to spend so long on them they haven't made a bad one yet. I guess they'd have to try pretty hard. :p

I'm still annoyed Disney has shut down the 2D departments- why? Only the recent crap like Home on the Range is stupid, we want more Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, LIttle Mermaid, Hunchbacks and Pocahontases!

Pixar were unknown before Toy Story so that gave Disney the advantage. Disney wanted them to make 5 films which Disney would get the majority of the profit and they would own the rights to the films (remember the Buzz Lightyear cartoon Disney did). So basically they can do what they want, they can ask for Pixars approval but they can go over their heaRAB.

I can't see Tom Hanks doing 3 and 4. I dont think I've ever seen him do a sequel apart from Toy Story 2. Ultimately if he doesnt like the script or something then he can decide not to even if he does like being Woody.

Yeah so far Pixar havent done a bad film and I hope they don't. Disney's new 3D film Chicken Little, looks okay but I'm not sure if it'll be a hit or not.

Also Shark Tale, it might have a lot of big stars but this could be Dreamworks flop as so far it has a rating of 33% on RottenTomatoes (calculates all critic reviews) where as Shaun fo the Dead and Pixar movies are closer to 100%. Even on Internet Movie Database the rating is around 5.2/10. So it doesn't look promising. Well maybe not a flop as people are still going to go see it and it's already made a lot of money but overall it hasn't been a huge success.

Yeah I was sad to see that the voice of Slinky died. Here is his imdb page http://imdb.com/name/nm0001815/

Toy Story only went to the cinema because people loved it in advance screenings.

All I can say is Disney make sure you make these good and don't turn tarnish the films image.
