disney sing it camp rock no sound from mic help ps3?

bought camp rock sing it on ps3 that came with 2 mics, game seems to be working but no sound coming from mics.. what am i doing wrong? i have plugged it in usb connector as stated in instructions.
please help so my son can play this game, thanks.
