Disney...no longer magic.....

Toy Story 3 would be a hit just on the name......for the first week at least.
The deal Disney struck with Pixar was an abomination and Disney apparently have the property rights to all the characters produced by Pixar that are distributed under the contract.
Disney put their recent slew of disasters down to the fact that they weren't 3D..rather than they were dull stories told without flair and lacking in design..so now they are going to try and crack 3D.. that won't solve those problems and it looks very much like Dreamworks are doing likewise though they already have PDI (Shrek, Antz) so the transfer won't be quite as traumatic.
The Pixar/PDI/Blue Sky films were hits because they were strong ideas well executed and whilst the lure of 3D probably counted for part of their appeal, it wouldn't be enough on it's own..just ask Squaresoft.
LOL Everyone read the Jim Hill articles and see a company not just shoot itself in the foot but eat itself for spite:D
 
It's a shame that they won't be making any more classics in the traditional format, because as late as 2001 there was a classic, Atlantis - The Lost Empire did anyone see that, it was a great adventure. We might have been cynical of Disney's marketing over the years, but we'll soon miss them if they're gone.
I think at the end of the day it's ideas that make a great hit film and this accounts for far more of the success than the techincal wows of the films such as special effects & cgi. Disney has always released films based on the wow factor and are maybe figuring that that's what can save them, but not without good ideas, and that's why an endless supply rehashed sequels to great originals isn't helping.
Maybe they should get back to what they were best at, plaigirism. I didn't disagree with their concept of taking old fairy tales and classic legenRAB and creating great family films out of them. Why not start with the Wizard Of Oz, it's in the public domain, their could be a whole series of adventures.
And maybe they could team up with Square in the same way they did for Kingdom Hearts for PS2 and create a REAL Final Fantasy movie, as a big fan of the series the film that was actually created was a huge disappointment.
Pixar broke away from the tradition of not only the animation technique, but also with using historical fairy tales and legenRAB and instead created contemporary films based on very original ideas, Disney may be worried that they can't make this sort of film without Pixar and maybe they can't, so maybe they should see past it and go back to what they were best at.
