Went to buy my 6 year old niece The Little Mermaid only to find out my local HMV (Newcastle & Metro Centre) had sold out!

Asked them when they'll have it in stock again and they said that Disney have stopped making them.:confused: Surely that cant be right?

Anyways, I then bought her a voucher from there and ordered the trilogy off Amazon (a late xmas present for her).

Does anyone know if they have stopped selling them? Also, why havent they got other classics such as Beauty & The Beast, The Lion King etc on DVD? Im pretty sure I havent seen them released on DVD before, unless im mistaken?:o:confused:

i thought Disney did a gap of about 7 years between releases for films, hence why some can go for a decent priceon nternet auction sites (I know a guy at work that sold his ex girlfrienRAB Beauty and the beast for about 40quid on ebay)

It's called Moratorium or in Disney's terms the "Disney Vault"... it comes from the original idea that Disney would re-release their films for a limited time every seven years. During the nineties, they started the practise with the video releases, and it's moved onto DVD.

There's some good information about it at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Vault

not many publishers would be able to market like that.

not Disney, but a film I would love to get is Breaking Away - doesnt seem to be around on R2
