I have seen some of the other posts about it not being available in BC, etc., and some having used it, but could not really get a feeling if its worth it.

I have a 3100, 5800 and 9200 all past 1 year old.
Any advice on whether or not to pay the $5 a month?

I plan to add it in January/07 when my warranty expires (1x9200, 3x4100).

I just added it for my 1 9200 in late September. Was a month late after my warranty expired (Aug 2006). I've been lucky so far nothing wrong with my receiver, but with the complexity of the receiver (also having a hard drive), 2 remotes, switches, lnbs, dish something is bound to break!

Dish care price has increase 1$ as of March 1st...

I belive it is worth it if you have multiple recivers...with at least one them being a PVR or HD receiver, but if you only have, lets say a 3100 I think it's not

6$ a month is 36$ a year...

3100-4100 are sold 99$ and sometimes you get them on special at half price!

For what it's worth, I believe that it has been proven that Dish Care is available to B.C. as well

You can add Dishcare even if you live in B.C., but it won't be honoured. Dishcare IS NOT available for clients in B.C., period.

And why the hell should dishcare NOT be available in BC? Nobody has even had a good guess about that, as far as I've seen.

I think it's worth the extra $$ for a PVR based system.

as for BC, must be the socialists

I think that makes it $72 a year ;)

But yes, with only 1 receiver it doesnt make much sense to get the service.

Is this something that you can add at anytime? Do the receivers have to be under warranty to initially apply for it?

It's 6$ a month and covers for all the receivers that are in the household. If you have 6 receivers it's only 1$/per receiver/month

Dish care is a 1 year contract

Early termination fee of 35$ if you cancel before the end of the 1 year (if iI remeber well)

Can be add at anytime, but warranty does not cover pre-existing problems, meaning that if you call to add it the day your receiver broke it won't be covered

I own several EV receivers, including 3 PVRs. I have never had a hardware problem. However, I have had numerous failures due to firmware issues and frequent guide issues. Firmware issue have cost me $100s of dollars due to EV's refusal to acknowledge them and fix the problems. Firmware bugs and guide inaccuracies are the major issues facing EV customers and probably account for a very high percentage of customer service calls and receiver replacements.

Don't believe me? Welcome to the Bell corporate culture of denial.
