Disgusting Drinks

What an eyeopener this programme was.
I never realised that the high alcohol levels in one can of special brewed lager were over more than the daily recomended units.
So we are supposed to share a can of special brew between two people to "drink reponsibly?"
The difference in opening a bottle of wine or a can lager is that the can of lager would go flat if you kept half for the next day.
I was also shocked about the holier than thou Buckfastleigh Monks who were not interested in talking about the Bucky problems in parts of Scotland which were fueling crime.
Thoughts anyone?

I went on a tour of the Carlsbeg Brewery in Copenhagen once and they showed us where they brewed the Special Brew. The man who was conducting the tour said they could only export it to two countries in the world as it is not allowed anywhere else (including in Denmark) - those countries? England and Scotland.

And if they banned Buckfast Tonic Wine or removed the caffeine? The kiRAB drinking it would simply replace it with Red Bull along with their alcohol of choice, probably cider.

What you're supposed to do is know that the "units" limits are completely fictitious.

Obviously that's not a license to get ratted every night of the week (alcohol is still a poison), but it does mean that the numbers about what is safe were completely made up. it doesn't take much common sense for even non-medical people to realise the lie behind the generality of the original diktat. Just look at the difference in stature between an 8-stone woman and a 20-stone one - do you really think that with over twice as much "body", the 20-stoner will be affected by an alcoholic drink in the same way as the lighter one? No, of course not!
Anyway, here's one of the many links to the "confession"

Oh, BTW. I've seen Special Brew on sale in spanish supermarkets, so I don't believe that it's only allowed in the UK.

interesting programme, made me think twice about that glass of wine i was guzzling! i'd say the vitamin water ppl weren't happy :)

Are you serious? You never knew Special Brew cans had more than the daily recommended amount? That is mind boggling. The reason people buy them is because they are cheap and get you pissed. The stench of these drinks is disgusting. All you can smell is pure alcohol. Why would you want to drink that?

Also the Monks talk to nobody. They are segregated from the whole of society. They get food delivered and left there for a Monk to pick up at a time is right for them, so why would they start giving interviews? As far as they are concerned they are cut off from the world, which is why they have people acting on their behalf. That has always been the case with Monk. They give a lot of their profit to charity. But in doing so they fuel crime. What a dilemma.

I'm surprised they didn't mention Northern Ireland when talking about Buckfast, it's an incredibly popular drink over here too with the younger chav-tastic groups, as much as it is with Scotland if not more so.
