Discussing The Tree Of Knowldge "of good and evil."?

Okay...so I had a discussion if the act of eating from "The Tree of Knowledge" was an act of evil within itself. The opposing view pointed out that it wasn't "The Tree of Knowledge," it was "The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil." The arguement was, "is the knowledge of disease, sin, murder, lusts, and all sorts of grievances for humanity a good thing?" "God warned us in the day we ae from the tree, we would surely die because of it." Really now...was it because we actually ate from the forbidden tree that caused it, or was it God's judgment for eating from the tree? If you first notice the effects after eating the tree, Adam and Eve realized that they were naked. Is this realization inherently evil? So after this, come the judgment. The land was cursed (thorns and thistles it shall bring to you) by GOD because of Adam's disobedience to God. Eve was punished to bare pain in child birth, and the man would rule over her. The punishment for the serpent was to have his legs chopped off, and to be more cursed than the cattle and beasts of the field. So, non-biasedly evaluating the scripture alone, the effects of the world going bad, wasn't because of the tree, but it was God's punishment for disobedience by eating off of the "Forbidden Tree." To blame it on the tree is not evidence that fits the story. It's the same as in Pandora's Box, and other's throughout the patriarchal faiths of the region. Disobedience to the gods was a bad thing, and to challenge the authority of such was considered evil. Stories like this push great political agendas!

It's like a fundamentalist suppressing knowledge from his children, by not giving them advice on how to deal with the perils of the world when they occur, so they're trapped within that realm of thinking. This is one of the reasons why people who come from a religious background and question scriptural and religious authority are shunned, then when they go out into the world, they don't know what to do, because they haven't been exposed to what they don't know....so they cling back to religion for security. Now that we have this knowledge, science and ethics that applies religious teachings as more for allegorical benefits, than literal confining "truths" have progreesed our way of thinking for the improvement of humanity. Don't blame age-old ancient religious paradoxes of a certain individual for the punishment of mankind, and don't blame other people. The best knowledge are individuals thinking collectively on how to solve the negativities of every day life with a positive mind and a positive outlook, rather than depending on superficial accusations that depend on flawed dogma and demonize independence from fundamental religious thought.
dairob: We should NOT eat the tree of life or aim for eternal life because that is the 2nd greatest sin that mankind could commit befor God ALmighty (Read Genesis 3)

Oh, so the pursuit of not dying is evil too...interesing
