I want to get a tattoo on my 18th birthday, but I don't just want to pick a cliched overused tattoo, it's in memory of my brother who died when I was 12, so I need to discuss it with the artist before my 18th birthday. Is it possible to do so if I don't have consent from my parents before my 18th birthday?

There's a lot to think about before getting a tattoo. I really don't recommend a tattoo for so many reasons. If you get a tattoo representing your fave band you'll regret it when your older. You might totally hate the band next year and want to scrape off your tattoo it won't come off. I think your parents are perfectly right to wait till your 18th birthday because at that time I hope you have thought over what your tattoo is going to be and where. But since it's for your brother it's fine. But remember you can never take it off so choose wisely. Open up catalogs and other places to look at well thought of and made tattoos. I think you'll be just fine if you wait for your 18th birthday. Make a wise choice but if it means really important to you then go for it.

I am sure you can discuss it with the tattoo artist before you are 18. Just let them know you are not doing it that day but want to talk about what you want to have done as soon as you do turn 18. There is not a law against talking with them!

if you got money for a plane ticket fly to reno there is no tattoo age. and if you want a unique one try to draw it up yourself using things that are important to you and him and they can tune it up for you

It depends. In Illinois, you are not allowed into the studio unless you are 18 or with a parent or legal guardian so that is very tricky.

I wanted a tattoo on my 18th that was to be in memory of my great grandma and felt the same way as you. Here in Georgia you usually can't go in without a parent unless you are 18 but I was about a week away when I went to talk to them. They were fine with it and understood that I wanted custom artwork for a very special tattoo and I wanted it the day I turned 18. They weren't going to turn me away...especially since I wasn't getting some cheap tattoo.
