Im applying for NROTC and have to answer the above question.
This is a pretty rough draft, any pointers would help me greatly.

The love I hold for my country, my family tradition, and my drive extend my limits are all reasons why I want to become a Naval Officer. Since I was a small boy watching the Independence Day parade in my town I knew I wanted to be in the military. That knowledge only became more progressive as I learned of all the freedoms we possess in this country. I would do whatever it takes to keep those freedoms for this nation.
My family has also always had a military heritage, from my great-uncles who served in World War II; to my father, cousins, and uncles who have all served as well. I wish to continue the tradition of upholding the liberty of the United States, just as my fellow family members have.
The need within me to be the best is another reason I want to become a Naval Officer. Naval Officers are the military elite and I wish to join that prime fraternity of men and women. I want to push my limits to the extreme. Becoming a Naval Officer will help me excel better than anything else in this world. While I constantly strive to be the best, I believe US Navy will further push me past what I believed imaginable.
Finally, the more that I mature, the more I want to bring out the best in others. As a Naval Officer I would be in a position to not only have myself excel but to push others to as well. My duty as an Officer would be to help my fellow sailors advance their lives while protecting the amazing country we all love.
