Discuss the development of Christianity following the fall of Rome and the emergence of the Byzantine Empire. How did the Eastern and Western churches become defined during these centuries? What brought them together and what pulled them apart? What was the justification for the crusades and the impact it made on Christianity? Despite this, why was Christianity still able to grow successfully during the middle ages?
