discuss substitute?

I love discuss, BUT i only have 20 gallons, and I know discuss need about 60, and DON'T tell me to upgrade, I can't even have the right time to take the utmost care of a discuss, balancing EC activities and school. (only 13) SOOOOOOO, what is a good substitute? Are german blue rams any good? do they swim slow and flowing? what about other gouramis?? Or are there peaceful cichlids? Angels, i need beuty too, water temp, or links, I'm desperate>

MY TANK IS CYCLED, so don't comment bout that.

Gouramis are probably better. Pearls and moonlights (if you can find them) are my favorites.

You could try Gouramis, as the other user said, but if you're looking for something truly Discus-esque, consider a SINGLE Festivum Cichlid. They look like Angelfish (which are pretty similar to Discus), but stay a bit smaller, and MUCH shorter (Angelfish have VERY tall fins, unlike Festivums). Festivums have a more natural beauty, unlike that of some of their Cichlid relatives. You could also try a Betta with some other fish, but that has become too commonplace in my opinion. Rams or Apistos will definitely add marked beauty to your tank with their slow, graceful swimming and their bright colors, and you could comfortably keep a pair of one or the other. Avoid Angels... As I mentioned, they get very tall (about a foot tall) and get stressed very easily if their tank is too shallow. For any of those fish, water between 77*-83* should be perfect. well 20 gallons isnt really big enough for the cichild. unless you get it as a baby. in that case you can get two jack dempsey cichilds or any other ones but you will have to upgrade within the next 5 months. gouramis are cool. agressive but cool. you can get one or two of those..
or you can get tiger barbs. they are fin nippers though, but really cute. if you get angels, only get two for now cause of the tank size. also, baby oscars are cute too :)
the temp range for all these fish is around 72-80.

There are no substitutes for discus.It sounds like you know how to keep fish,so it would be best to keep any community fish in your tank,until you purchase a larger tank.

The thing with discus is keeping the ph low,so you might want to figure out how to do this before you spend $60 on one.That would be the best way to keep them,learn how,before you own them.
