meant what war were they in the middle of

It was between the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the Reformation. The major organizing institution was the Catholic Church.

The Middle Ages were in the period between ancient times and modern times. It is sometimes called the Dark Ages due to the lack of free thought. Anyone who did not believe the Christian Churches or Governments laws and beliefs was cast off from society as a Heretic and was sometimes even killed by the Spanish Inquisition. Millions of Jews and Muslims were forced to leave England and France in the later Middle Ages. The Bubbonic Plague also took place in the Middle Ages. The Bubbonic Plague came from Central Asia and spread to through Europe and Asia. Over 20 million people were killed. The First Outbreak of Plague was in Venice, Italy. The plague was carried by rats who had fleas. If you breathed in the same air as someone who had plague you would get it as a well and die within the same day. The rate of people dieing resulted in large burials or burnings of hundreds of bodies. Another large event that took place in the Middle Ages was the Crusades. When the City of Constantinople called for help from the Pope for a small defense force to fight off Hun's and Muslims. When the letter arrived there was a new Pope. Pope Urban II. Pope Urban II instead of sending a small force, rallied thousands of untrained raging christian's and told them it is okay to kill if it is in the name of god or if you are not harming a fellow christian, to go and take Jerusalem because he thought it was christian land. The Soldiers were all exterminated by the Muslim Force. The trained Knights eventually came and captured Jerusalem. Their were three more Crusades all were failures but the 3rd. During the Third Crusade Christian and Muslims had a small amount of peace even with there hate the leaders of the two forces were able to sit down and talk.

that is the middle ages.which is why the next period the Renassiance was called the rebirth of free thought.
