Just called Bell again regarding the false advertising in their programming brochure. http://www.bell.ca/web/tv/en/all_regions/pdfs/channels/english_menu.pdf

It clearly suggests that Discovery HD, Oasis HD and Treasure HD ARE INCLUDED in the HDTV value pack. ($10/month) (regardless of subscription to News and Learning one)

Nowhere in the programming brochure does it say anything about News and Learning 1 being a pre-requisite to obtaining these three channels.

Anyway, I called again with this issue and they told me today that these three channels are included in the HDTV package and news and learning one is NOT a pre-requisite. I even asked to speak with a 'supervisor' who reiterated the fact the channels are included in the HDTV pack.

Is anyone else not getting these HD channels? I have the name of the supervisor in Toronto who quoted me this if you want to speak with him. I won't post his name, but if you PM me I'll give it to you.

I have the Treasure and Oasis channels. As far as I know you always needed discovery and learning 1 for the HD channel. It used to be marked but I noticed in the link you provided it does not. I'm not sure if they recently changed that and forgot to add it to existing subscribers.

When I first received my package a year ago, I received my 12 themes and HDTV pack. I had to call for DiscoveryHD and TSNHD. Not sure if it was an error on their part, or something else?

DiscoveryHD and TSNHD are included in the new HD package. They are extra with the old packages. You must also sub to the SD versions of Discovery and TSN.

I added the HD pack at the beginning of July. I don't subscribe to News and Learning 1 so I don't have the SD Discovery. I did, however, receive Discovery HD. It disappeared a couple of weeks ago. I called in, was told I was indeed supposed to have it, and it's back after she did a rehit. No mention was made of me not having News and Learning 1.

My point is this, if you read the brochure, it clearly indicates that TSNHD and Sportsnet HD are dependant of Sports 1 theme pack. For Discovery, Treasure and Oasis, it makes no mention of a pre-requisite for these channels. They are included with the HDTV pack, just as ABC, Fox, NBC, Global, ect.

Ya, I noticed that, and, assumed when I got my system installed (just last Friday) that I would be getting all those channels included in the HD lineup. They are included but RUSH and another one says its a free preview.
Is that mean that they are going to re-package channels and make you get them to get the HD versions?

I think you are right about DiscHD being included with the new HD package. With the old HD package you must sub to Discovery SD and pay extra. I sub to Discovery but must pay $1.99/mo extra to get DiscHD. TSN HD is also $1.99 extra with the old packages. Treasure and Oasis appear to be included for both new and old HD packages. Could EV make things a little more confusing for HD customers? I am sure they will soon. :D

unfortunately, the brochure isn't very accurate in the discovery HD part of it...they really should have a notation, like the TSN and SN channels do...that said, it would clutter up the HD section more than it already is, which can make it rather confusing looking...i am wondering though, how many people DON'T take News & Learning 1...it is a very commonly chosen theme.

I think the whole free preview thing is just a free preview for those that don't subscribe to the HD package. Bell does offer CTV (east & west), CBC, and SRC HD free to those not subscribing to the HD package. So these people, if there are any, would see Rush, Equator, and A&E as free preview until they expire.

A little off topic, but does anyone have any indication on when they are going to start naming the shows properly instead of "FREE PREVIEW". It's very annoying on the guide since you have to check the info for each hour, and you can't set the PVR to record things.

here here....its abit annoying, as well as the new 'football only' HD channels, they only list the upcoming game (usually on Sunday) and not what is currently on.

I subscribe to the HD package, but do not subscribe to the Discovery SD channel. I have Discovery HD. You do not have to sub to the SD to get this HD channel.

Well, the football channels are there for that reason only; and it's a way for those of us with 44 hours guides to know what will be in HD this weekend.

I agree though that the ones like A&EHD are annoying because that is the only place to get A&EHD.

What really burns me is when a channel I pay for goes onto a free preview; so although I'm a paying customer I lose program info so a bunch of freeloaders can get it for free?

This is what they don't tell you. They list all these channels in the HD package without telling people in a clear way that you need to sub to the SD equivilents to get them. It is midleading, and I don't know why they don't put a small asterix beside those channels, and put a smallnot at the bottom. I feel they are deliberatly misleading people.

same here as fife said above.

I am only subscribing to the STANDARD lineup and the $10 HD package.

I get DiscoveryHD along with OASIS etc.......

I am pretty close to signing up for Bell Expressvu, and the gal in the Bell store verbally told me that I had to have signed up for Discovery SD in order to get Discover HD included in the HD package. But if she hadn't told me, I'd never have known 'cause it certainly isn't written up that way in the programming brochure. She also mentioned a similar dependency for one of the movie channels, but I don't remember which one now.

If it's part of the "HD package", you shouldn't have to subscribe to the SD version. If, however, it does mention you have to subscribe to the SD channel, the HD one should be thrown in, even if you don't take the "HD package". That's how it works for TMN, TSN, and the new french HD channels.

It all depends on the CSR you get. I subscribe to the HD pack but not News & Learning 1, hence no SD Discovery. I do have the HD version though. When it disappeared briefly during the summer, I called until I got a CSR who agreed it was part of the HD pack and I've had it ever since.
