Discovered I have Hunchback and Scoliosis

Hi...well, the chiro won't make the curvature change, but he'll help lessen the impingment from overcompensation and the pressure on any muscles or joints.
It's good for a maintenance process, not cure. Help...yes, but part of your life.

Regarding your long leg that's shorter, you might be able to build up the inside of a shoe a bit to compensage somewhat. Insoles that are shaped might help as well with your posture.

jogging, Boxing and Karate aren't what I was thinking as exercise, it'll actually cause more impact of injury in the long-run. I can imagine your body-type, (I'm ectomorphic). I'm thinking maybe a physical trainer or physio to help strengthen certain muscles to help regain strength and to stretch some that may be contracted. Have you checked out the Alexander Technique. Something like that... Accupuncture might be of help.

How much vitamin D are you taking? Have you had your levels checked?

I've read that Bromelain can help with body inflammation sometimes...it's a digestive enzyme taken with fooRAB. I do take it with some meals..not continually, however.

Keep us posted how you're doing.

Thanks for your worRAB.
It's funny, just 3 weeks ago i was fine and doing exercise daily. now I can barely move.

I'm gonna keep walking though, i can walk.. but if i move my torso too much, then it hurts my chest. so i'm gonna try to keep it steady

HOw much vitamin D? Well i drink milk for breakfast, then maybe at night too. Then i take a Multivitamin and an extra vitamin C pill. Is that not enough?

Hi I'm 31. I went to the dr. took xray of my spine. We discovered i have The initial stages of huncrabroadack, which is neck going forward.

I also have alot of weird turns in my spine and since i have 1 leg that is longer..the hip is also twisted.

What could i do for this? Will i have many problems due to my conditions?
Anything i can do?

Recnelty i ve been having chest pain( NOT HEART RELATED i already went to cardiologist and MD too. they said i have costochondritis)

One of the hardest things and most painful is sneezing, coughing.
When i sneeze i get a cracking sound and it hurts really bad. the pain keeps me weakened for a few minutes.

imagine if i had a cold or something and i had to sneeze/cough alot.
This is tough.

2 days ago i started getting a scratchy throat and i was going to cough ..i was able to stop the feeling by drinking some water. but i guess i was just lucky

is there any ways to stop sneezes and coughs?

Well my hump is not there yet. But the dr just noticed i have the beginning stages of it and that a hump could form if i dont do anything about it. I read this is happening to alot of people using computers. and i've used computers for alot of years. THe main problem i'm having now is the Chest/Sternum pain from movement.

Yeah i would start doing back strengthening excercises if i didn't have extreme chest pain. I have bad chest pain so i don't know if i should start doing excercises. i'll just hurt myself more.

If i start some Physical Therapy, when should i? I mean, i'm having chest/sternum pain(from movement) everyday and it doesn't seem to go away. Should i wait till it gets better or should i start PT now?

Just before this whole thing happened i had another Dr's appointment about other body problems i have(i have damage in shoulder, ankle, knees ) and he suggested to start Physical Therapy. I was goign to go but i was waiting to save some money. Then this new thing happened. So now i can't go right now.

You're very young but still could possibly have osteoporosis, a weakening of your bones. Strontium is useful for this. You could also post on the Osteoporosis board here and see what they have to say.

All the best,

Jen

I use Sisu Healthmune and L. Lysine. Do the homework on it and see if it meets your neeRAB. There is also the Coldmune, which might do the trick.

Yes, you have to be in better condition if you have coughing, etc...it would be painful.

You had x-rays done? Have you had an MRI?

Hi again.

It's been a few days/week. I'm feeling a bit better, at least now i can lay in bed to sleep. that's good. and i've been having great dreams.

i still have lots of cramps with movement but i'm better. i've been getting chiro help. it's great.

no i haven't had MRI's and i won't cause i'm poor. no insurance. you see, not all of us have the money to get those things done.

Thanks jen.

Well and this chest pain has been going on for 2 weeks. And i get extreme chest pain also when i sneeze, cough and even burp.

They just told me to take advil but that's ridiculous...it's not working at all and i'm not gonna keep taking it if it's not working.

Who treats these thiings anyways? i called the Orthopedic , he said he doens't deal with chest pains.

Hi..you should get your vitamin D levels checked. I do take almost 5,000 IU at this point. Mine was very low.

The range for both men and women for Calcium is around 1,000 mg.

GNC has a Cal/mag/D that I take...(4 daily)...but I do supplement with more D.

How are you eating?

Did you recently have a cold with a cough?

I just want to add...have you had a bone density test done?

q

oh my..is there any cure to that??i mean is there still hope that your back will back to normal? and the chest pain you have?

HI all. Friday Jan 7, 2011.

This day sucked. i'm getting alot of pains with movement. So i'm "ouch".. "aa!" "crap!" "ooooo" all the time at work and can't move. Thankfully, the boss is nice to me and doesn't fire me even though the job i do involves lifting boxes, carrying, which i told her if i may be excused from.

so i just do the computer stuff and some filing in place( on a desk) but it was really tough today.

i was feeling kind of better yesterday but today it came back bad. I wonder if sleeping is making it reirritated cause everytime that i feel better one day, the next day if i feel worse, it seems to start in the morning after i wake up.

Well i dont have insurace. I haven't done any of those tests.
How am i eating? I'm e ating good i think.
But lately since i can't do much aerobic exercise I'm eating alittle bit less than before cause i can't burn it so why eat more.

NO i haven't gotten a cold with cough recently.

But today and yesterday i tried not to move my arms/chest much and i didn't have as much cramps. But then today just an hour ago, i dropped something, tried to catch it and with that fast motion i got a bad cramp in the chest.

it was pretty intense.

I'm wondering if an appointment with a physical therapist might be helpful.
I have a dowager's hump and forward placement of the head. (I don't know if that's the same as yours) they gave me some excercises to help with strengthening my upper back. You have some additional stuff going on, too, though. They could also make you special orthotics. I know you said you don't have insurance, but if there's anything you could do to get to PT, the kind of help they can give you may prove invaluable in the long run.

Just my quick 2 cents

You can't just sit there and seize up...you need to do some therapy, albeit slow, to gain strength, change your posture and become knowlegable of what changes you need to make.

I'm at a computer a lot, I was a sign language interpreter and I'm a hairstylist...so that includes lots of PAIN. I have control over my hours and my clients..otherwise, I couldn't function. If I sat and made no efforts to maintain myself, I'd be shrivelled in a ball.

GO and start....you'll feel better in the long run...but for you, it may be a lifetime of effort. There are medications possibly that could help ease your pain...but that's only to help keep you going for therapy.

Hi..I'm curious what other issues you're dealing with and what medications are you taking? Have you been on prednisone?

You can't necessarily change the shape of your spine, but you can do exercises to help strengthen your muscles and support the areas so that your body's not overstressing only certain muscles.

Are you getting enough vitamin D? and Calcium/magnesium?

Maybe something like the alexander technique can help you strengthen and change your posture and everyday conscious focus on how you hold your body.

I can relate with the scoliosis. I've had lung surgery which has exacerbated the shape and overcompensating. I do see a chiropractor which has helped with the pain in general and overcompensation.

Thanks. I just went to the chiro juts 1 hour ago.

We went through my xray throoughly. He's gonna help me get it better. My spine is twisted in one spot so the rib is out of position there. then i have a curvature lower down and my hip is not straight cause one of my legs is longer.

Issues i'm dealing with? Just the rib/chest pain that i have now. I also have a popping ankle. i guess my foot took too much weight from many years of favoring my long leg. and i'm skinny like with marfan's syndrome.. except i'm not flexible like the usual marfan's.

my neck also feels tired always. The xray shows my neck is going forward. I think the thing is called Anterior Head Syndrome and Huncrabroadack.. i hope i can get that better, i dont want to have a hunch. Right now the neck just alittle forward. i dont have a hunch back yet.

I was taking advil.. Useless. it doesn't help. My chest hurts alot.
I'm gonna rest it. not move too much.

Yeah i should get back to exercises.. but now it's just too painful. maybe the kind of exercise i was doing was not good( Normal joggin and shadow boxing and twisting fast like doing karate moves) for me. Especially since we noted in the xray one of my vertebrae is twisted( the one where rib is dislocated)

Yes i take my Vitamin D and all that.

I've never had chest problems like this but i guess all that wear and tear for years made my spine shape worse and now i'm older. so. that's life

I'm sorry you are having sternum pain. Anyway, even if you don't go to PT right away, there are a couple of simple things they suggested to me that may be of help to you. The most obvious is sit up straight, chest up, stomache pulled in. (I know you already know that one) I tend to slouch alot. And when I look at my profile in the mirror, I can actually see my so called hump straightening out a bit when I stand up straight. When I slouch, it is dramatically hunched more. That motivates me to not slouch.

If you are side sleeper like me, and if you have a tendency to roll your shoulders in, try sleeping with your shoulders open and chest opened up.

Also, a very simple excercise that I wouldn't think would aggravate the chest pain is to tighten your shoulder blades for several reps several times a day.

When I went to PT the gal I had was so good at downscaling my exercises,
because sometimes the exercises she would give me would aggravate something else. She also worked on everything that needed help and not just the original problem I went in for. For instance, I didn't go in for posture problems but she gave me exercises for posture.

I hope you get some relief soon.

Great advice!

Regarding the sleeping part, hug a pillow and put another one between your legs.

Keep us posted on what your decisions are.

I think the best is to something rather than nothing...and being aware of your posture helps. Check out youtube chest and shoulder or upper back exercises..there are tons of them available.
