I think they come frozen. Didn't find them at Safeway today which was
no big surprise because they don't carry Goya products.

Cool stuff. I've been using fresh tortillas for that, and just steam them
first in a steamer or nuke. They are fried, not baked. They soften up enough
to close, but not to the extent that you can make a more decorative edge as
shown in your second link.

Here's what they look like:

The texture is puffier than a traditional empanada dough. I can't say
whether that's a function of the tortilla or the fact they are fried or both
because I haven't tried baking them. I'll have to try these.

LOL - I thought the subject was about discotheques at first...

I love empanadas but the dough is the biggest pain of the process -
I'll keep an eye out for these!

That's odd. My Safeway carries all manner of Goya products. The manager of
your Safeway must have some personal issue with Goya.

they are useful for all manner of filled pastries, sweet and savory.
Endless possibilities for hors-d'oeuvres.

We don't have Fiesta markets here in SF (at least that I know of) and
I would only shop to Walmart if I had a gun pointed at my head... but
I did noticed Goya (can) at a Mexican market a few weeks ago, so I
will visit a couple of them to see if I can locate Disco's in the
frozen section at one of them.

I spoke with the assistant manager of that Safeway. That's the way it
is in San Francisco. If you think it should be different, I nominate
you to take it up with regional management.

Why should I? *My* Safeway carries Goya products; *your* Safeway is the
deficient one! Have you tried requesting Goya? I've actually had fairly good
luck getting my Safeway to start carrying products I requested.

Horsecrap! What? There's no Mexicans in SF? Try a Safeway in the
Mission District, if there is one.

Safeway has become the Fox News of supermarkets. I'm amazed they
still exist. Even Draeger's and other upscale markets aren't as
blatantly racist as Safeway.

Racist schmacist! Of course racism exists, it's a fact of life. What
brands a store carries depends on the ethnic mix of a neighborhood.
When the market is in a predominently lily white hood the market may
carry a minimist Goya display and perhaps nothing at all. In a
predominently Hispanic hood the market will likely carry every product
Goya sells, and several other Hispanic brands as well, of which there
are many. In hoods heavily populated with Hispanics the reverse is
true, the US National brands (Del Monte, Libby's, etc.) will be given
very little shelf space because the Hispanics won't buy those.... are
they racists... of course not. Too many confuse racism for cultural
difference.... even among Hispanics there are wide spread differences,
especially regarding food, not much different from the regional
disparity among the different lily white regions across all of the US,
and the entire planet for that matter. There are major differences
within all ethnic groups, and of all aspects, not just food.

I wasn't shopping in the Mission at the time. Did you really expect
me to go all over town that particular moment looking for a product I
just learned about a couple of hours before? Are you completely crazy
or just a little?
Racist? WTF are you talking about? Why would you expect me to drive
all the way to San Mateo just to shop for groceries? I don't even
drive to San Bruno to shop at Lunardi's. Just because you're stuck in
the middle of nowhere and have to drive for hours just to find an
outpost of civilization doesn't me I am.
