I had posted a week or so back and was worried about a upcoming discogram that was done 12-15-10.. Everyone asks and says how painful the procedure is.. Here is what I experinced.. Before the procedure I was given just 10 mg of Valium by mouth 45 mins b4 the test.. I had an IV put in and given an antibiotic.. When the discogram started the l3-l4, l4-l5, and l5-s1 were done.. The l5-s1 was the only one that I had that was painful.. When the contrast was pushed in there was extrem pain right away.. The doctor Instantly stopped pushing the contrast and pushed in lidocaine to nurab the disc and at the same time the nurse pushed Demerol into the IV and As mangled as the disc was the procedure went very well and minimal pain.. All the horror stories I heard and read about I didnt have.. Im sure it was the Dr who was very informative through the whole procedure and compassionate about what was going on. I guess it depenRAB on the Dr. as to how painful and horrific the procedure will be.. I dont wanna sugar coat it b/c it was very painful but only a few seconRAB.. After the pain stopped he injected antibiotics in to the disc as a precaution for infection.. I havent had to take any pain meRAB yet or have alot of pain, only some muscle spasms and soreness.. After the needles were taken out he showed me the images and explained exactly what the problem was and showed me the images.. I had a CT after that and will see the doc on 12-27 to set up the fusion date.. I am glad my Neurosurgeon did the test b/c just relying on the MRI it looked as if I needed a 2 level fusion.. The discomfort is well worth it to get an accurate dx.. For those needing one I just hope you get a Dr. that knows what hes doing.. its off to surgery in Jan and I feel good about the Dr. who is doing my surgery.. good luck to all..
