Discipline for a four year old?

My child is almost four. She throws a fit if she doesn't get her own way and wants to do everything herself. I take toys away for discipline. I also do positive behavior charts with stickers. We don't spank her or do time outs. The time outs just never worked for her (maybe we gave up on that too soon). Ugh, I am just at my wit's end. I feel like we are battling and she is trying to be in control all the time. I don't give in to her demands or fits. I'm looking for any advice on how to discipline a child her age. Thanks
