Disable 3G data and enable Wifi data

I know this is a strange topic but I just got took my G1 back home to Nigeria and unfortunately our carriers do NOT have data plans. They charge per KB of data. On the long run this is pretty expensive. I even downloaded Anycut and created a link to disable data but when I do that, I cannot seem to get any data through Wifi. Is there any service provider command code that does call barring for data calls? So i can use data with wifi only. Please i need a solution.
(N.B: I am the first person around to use the G1. I am a head turner. He he.)

Simple. Download Droidsans Tweaks Lite and you can use it to disable the APN, or you can just to to the APN settings and change the APN name, so that the phone looks up a non-existent APN and fails to get a data connection.

Well, I tried setting the APN to something bogus in Switzerland, where the data plans are all ripoffs, so as to avoid a connection.

Now I've received my first bill since having the Android phone, with the APN programmed false from day one. For one month, I was billed for 20 MB of traffic, about $100. I called my provider's 'customer care' and was given the runaround about how there is nothing they can do -- I think an employment criteria for these people is ho many times you can say "ii chann nuut mache" (I can't do anything) inside of a minute without getting the customer to hang up on you.

So I really think we need a setting-level switch that turns off mobile data traffic entirely. This should not be a difficult thing.

Hi all, does Droidsons tweak lite work for Samsung? I have a Galaxy S I9000.
Unfortunately, their web site is in Thai and like any one else not coming from that land, I have no clue about the documentation there!! Great, no?

@Cab4: Can you find a solution meanwhile? I also live in the "ii chan nuut mache"-land and I agree that the plans suck. Max 1G data. For which have stuff would it be enough? Just yesterday in idle state (or I thought so), my mobile ate 16 MB, without doing nothing.
