have a 2002 Honda xr100. When i start off i ride in 1st gear and when i shift into 2nd, it goes into neutral. So i down shift back into 1st gear and start off again, up shifting a little harder to second but it still wont go into 2nd gear. It just revs up in neutral. Every now and then it goes into second but its just being dumb right now. Please help me and tell me what the problem could be.

I would need to ride the bike to tell you what I think would be the problem. Often it is a bent shifting fork on the inside of the transmission. If this is the case, you will need to split the case to fix it. You can try shifting it at varying rpm levels. I have had a bike that would only shift above 5000 RPMs. Make sure your clutch is properly adjusted too.
These bikes are really tough. I'm sure it is something simple, but often mistreated bikes give you the most trouble. Good luck with the bike.
If all else fails, take it to a dealer for inspection. Take it in for a tune up and ask about the shifting problem.
