Dining/Living Room Combination Question?

I have a small colonial style house. The living/dining area is essentially a backwards L shape where the living room is the horizontal bottom on the left, smaller and odd shaped. The dining room is vertical but more square shaped. When you enter the house you walk into the living room and the dining room is to the right. I was thinking of switching rooms because the shape of the dining room would be better for a living room. I think it might feel awkward though to walk into someones dining room when you enter the house? What do you think? P.S. the kitchen is on the top of the L next to the current dining room.
