Dim prospects for future live action adaptations?

It's really hard for me to doom/praise anime adaptations because nothing I'm really into is on the slate yet. The closest has been Dragonball, but I haven't watched that in forever. GitS, Akira, and Ninja Scroll are all ones I love, so I will be checking those out if they are made, but it's too early to have an opinion. I do have a problem with radical departure from source material, though small departures are okay. I'm not the kind to become vicious when something is tampered with, so I'll probably see every LAM that comes my way. I want LAMs to be made.

Unless they come near Vampire Hunter D. Then I'll get vicious.

Will be horrible.
Will be horrible.
Will be REALLY horrible. (Kaneda and Tetsuo are brothers?!)
Will be mindless, but might work.
Will probably be a lot like the prior film.

Death Note MIGHT work, because if they use the live action version in Japan as a base, it'll be like The Ring or all those other adaptations of Japanese horror films. Not to mention the premise itself is rather grounded in murder mystery and suspense rather than nonstop action.

Of course, for those of you saying anime now is like comic book adaptations when they first became big in Hollywood...

Compare this...

To this.

I think the U.S Version of Death Note (If true) WON'T work at all.
Ninja Scroll might work, since WB are going to handle. Same goes with GITS & Akria (Kind of). But whatever.

Oh, I forgot to say Viz wants to get into these LAM's too. Do I hear Bleach!?
I'll find the article.

Well duh, Viz can see all the money Marvel is making off the live action movies and I bet they can get a bit envious. That's where the real money is, Something like the Dark Knight has made more money then any anime movie.

The problem is the anime adaptions so far have not hit the ground running, the first big comic book movie, Superman, was a huge hit, you can't say that about anime LA movies, so far.

Bebop is still going to happen because of Keanu Reaves. Also because of Mr. Reaves, it'll probably be a success. This will pave the way for DiCaprio's Akira and Efron's Full Metal Panic. I wouldn't be surprised if Death Note happened in the near future too.

Fans already have created kamehamehas in live action short films, so it can be done.

Isn't Gurren Lagan only 26 episodes? That's less than 13 hours. That should be relatively easy to trim down to a 3 hour movie.

But Death Note already gotten a LAM series so far. Why do we need a U.S version of it? And plus, the setting & character are Japanes-OH NO! I'm acting like those ppl that complain about race in LAM's...NOOO!!!

It can work, but can it be done in a decent way? (Again)

I think once people realize the sky isn't falling because two live action movies based on anime fail, everything will be fine. Obviously there is an interest out there since more anime are getting the LAM greenlight. Who knows? Maybe one of these years, Spielberg will actually work on a live version of Lupin the Third.

I'm also not expecting 100% accuracy, just like I don't expect it from live movies based on video games (and less face it, the good ones are very easy to separate from the bad ones.) so I'm open to the idea to begin with. Like Captain Highwind, I'm praying Bebop gets rid of Edward. That character single handedly prevented me from calling Cowboy Bebop great and I would welcome her disappearance.

Ok, found it. I thought there will be a link or something, but I guess not. But here were I read the info!

According to an announcement from VIZ Media, they have opened a new company just for producing American live action films from the anime in their stables. I for one welcome our new live action anime overloaRAB and can't wait to see Inuyasha large and in charge on the big screen and I know quite a few of you will be chomping at the bit for others on that list you've been fapping to in your deepest fantasies!

Naruto.....

BURN! BURN!! BURN!! HHAhahahahaha!

Don't worry, I doubt those anime will be LAM's. But I so badly want to see a REMAKE of Fist of the North star.

Here's a very easy Manga that can become a LAM: rabQ!
It's right there, not so hard to do. Really, it's not.

There is no fad.

Pretty much all anime that have been adapted into live action movies by Hollywood have been failures.

Is Hollywood licensing and picking up all these properties to develop as live action movies? Yes.

But try to understand something. There's nothing else left. Think about it. All the major comic books have development deals in place or have set up shop at other movie studios and production companies.

The few untapped intellectual properties left are anime and manga. And since Hollywood doesn't like developing ORIGINAL material, they want something that is VISUAL something that can be visualized for them in their little pitch meetings. Anime and manga sorta fits that bill.

The problem?

Speed Racer - borab.

Dragon Ball - borab.

Dragon Ball is bar none of the biggest and most popular anime/manga stories ever. And look what happens.

Can we actually expect and trust Hollywood to do right by these properties when they do such a disservice to Dragon Ball?

And here's the other. I think for many of these properties, they are quite simply UNFILMABLE as live action movies.

I think there are definitely elements and cues that live movies can look to from anime. But to straight up adapt them is just looking for failure much like Speed Racer and Dragon Ball.

DB and Speed Racer (Which I still think it didn't borab) wasn't the only movie that the Big-Bad U.S did, have everyone forgotten this movie?

Let me guess, yes? right? Just because 3 movie didn't do so well that doesn't mean it's impossible to make an Anime LAM.
Man, never knew ppl off the in-ter-web lose hope that fast.

Its very simple. Good filmmakers and talent aren't getting behind these properties.

People who don't understand the importance of this material and these characters.

Dragon Ball was a lucrative property before Fox got their hanRAB on it.

Now lets take for example NINJA SCROLL. How the hell is Hollywood going to adapt Ninja Scroll? Why would Hollywood even want to do Ninja Scroll? Who the hell would they cast in Ninja Scroll? Would they even cast Japanese actors as the leaRAB when Hollywood generally doesn't want to do that.

Full Metal Panic - Zac Efron. A world exclusively without adults. You have got to be freaking kidding me. I spit on the people who are making such decisions on Full Metal Panic.

Dude, a future Director! I know in 10 or 15 years from now (or sooner) a Director will mke a decent anime LAM. Why? Maybe they grown up with it or they seen it in a young age and wants to make a LAM out of it.

LOOOOOOOOOOONG Shot? Yes! But here's hoping! The ppl that made Transformers LAM grown up on Transformers, even though the LAM wasn't as close like the show but it looks and feels like it! (kind of)

King, I'm not taking you very seriously right now. It seems you are trying to poke at fans because you are I dunno maybe you are bitter about DBE and fans rejecting DBE.

It just seems like you are just goofing off with this subject and being sarcastic.
