Digitzer Problem on T3 When Slider Is Open

I noticed a problem a few weeks ago with my T3 when I opened the slider. The digitizer worked fine with the slider closed, with taps in the 320x320 portion of the screen working fine, but only in the lower portion when expanded, taps would only work about a 1/4 inch below the actual icons and links.

I went to Prefs and recalibrated the digitizer (several times over the last few weeks), but the problem still exists in just the lower portion of the screen when the slider's open.

Has anyone else had this problem? I checked the Tungsten board for similar issues and only saw one regarding replacement of the digitizer, and will contact PalmOne if necessary since it's still under warranty for another month or so, but am hoping someone might've already encountered this and come up with an easy fix.

Here's hoping...

There's no easy fix. It seems that a percentage of T3's have digitizer failures related to the slider, apparently due to a manufacturing defect. You should contact Palm and arrange for a replacement.

Wow! I've been suffering along with the same problem! I was actually going to post a question about my digitizer prolem (with the slide open) when I saw yours. Anyway, guess I'll be calling Palm to either repair or replace my T3.

I have observed that the digitizer problem gets worse at the lower portion of the display, this is why it is not so apparent when the slider is closed. One way to determine how far off you are from target is to draw a line (using the software for that), and then try to trace that same line. (you will have two parallel lines).

While it will look at first that you can live with that problem, it will become so irritating when you start using applications requiring accurate "hits" (calculator, games, etc.)

If your unit is still under warranty, call PalmOne immediately and arange for repair or replacement. There is no "user" solution for that problem. It will just get worse.

Regards.

I spoke to PalmOne today and received my offical Service Repair Order to ship it in for service or replacement. I have just under a month of warranty left, so timing worked out okay.

For those interested, there's a lengthier thread that you may want to check out in the Tungsten board titled "Digitizer Fix for T3!!!" that references a LOT of similar issues with this model and the T2 as well. For folks beyond their 12 months, there's a fix detailed that may help users willing to do a little minor surgery on the hardware. If mine goes again after the warranty expires, I may give it a try myself.

In the meantime, I doubt my wife'll give up my old IIIc she inherited. Wonder if my daughter'd be willing to part with Dad's old IIIxe for a little while. Hmm...

Either that, or it's back to a paper organizer for a week. Guess I should sweep out the cave and wash up a fresh set of animal skins while I'm at it. Ugh.

I have the same problem as the original poster. Since I have an extended warranty, PalmOne is shipping a replacement. I tried every "fix" I could find on the internet with no luck.

Well, again, after reading all your posts and suffering from the same digitizer problem, I called PalmOne for help. After several calls with their customer assistance group (which appears to be based overseas likely in India; it was a frustrating experience), I made arrangments for a repair (thank goodness for extended warranties!).

I'm a little worried about having my T3 out of my hands for a week, but I'm concerned the digitizer problem will only get worse... And I'm not brave enough to open it up and try some of the fixes suggested in other postings (and, of course, voiding my warranty).

Wish me luck!
