Digit. Calib. Deadlock, but different this time :)

Hello PDAStreeters, I usually just read here, and solve all my minor PBs without even asking, just by searching&reading.

But now, since a solid 10 weeks ( ) something makes me want to smash my belove T|3 against the wall.

Clearly, calibration has been a problem ever since my 1st Pilot 5000 !

But now this is much worse : Instead of the calibration of the digitizer getting so offset that I can't even reach the proper menu entry, exactly what occured with all (& that means ALL) my pre-OS5 machines and that I solved with gizmos like re-digi, that pops up the calib. screen at each soft reset.

If your PB is this latter, then get redigi 1.0 at www.palmgear.com, it's freeware and even worth 5 box (or ?, 4 that matter)

now for more vicious digitizing annoyances

My calibration is slightly offset, just enought to get me very frustrated when I have to quickly do things, and if I ever enter the prefs calibration screen, I'll NEVER get out of it ! It deadlocks to the point of no-return, presenting me with as much arrows&targets than I wish to click !
Needless to say at this point, only a soft reset can save me.

.. And I'm back in the cold, my palm being only a fraction of what it really is (come on, it's a T|3 !)

If anybody has this problem, please share any idea with me, as this is plaguing me since months !

Thank you very much for reading me, and bearing with my BAD english (doing my *best*) to boot, here's hoping for a helping hand, I'm really OUT of any idea, dry dead.

I have the same problem and sometimes if I whack it on the edge of my desk just below the record button, then re-digi it it works better for awhile. I have a T by the way.

I have tried taking it apart as some suggested, but it di not help me at all.

At this point I just "deal" with it. Sorry.

I've seen everything from software fixes to taking the machine apart and reseating cables to whacking the machine. All seem to work for a while but the problem always returns. The only sure fix is a trip back to Palm for repair. Even then, it's likely that the digitizer drift issue will return. The has been a continuing quality control problem with PalmOne products. Every one I've had has had some digitizer drift, some minor and some severe. OTOH, both of my Clie's have never experienced this problem so there's something different with the way PalmOne makes their digitizers.

Just to agree with Jim here, and say that I ended up sending mine to Palm for fixing, and it has worked well ever since. ( It was just a slight, but nevertheless irritating drift.
Palm did a good job, and I had my OWN Palm back to me within a week, good as new :)

Wow, a trip back 2 PalmOne... :(
... And just 4 the record, how many did it cost ?
I wonder if my Palm is still under warranty...

Oh, and the phones jack seems dead too !
I'm sure this is JUST software bugs...

Thanks to every answerer !

Cost me 0 pounds and 0 pennies :) It was 11 months old, and I told the guy on the phone I was doing it before the warranty (1-year) was out. And he replied by telling me that I actually had another year of warranty (2 years in total) due to an EU law. So you should be fine if it's under 2 years old....

P.S. Sorry I forgot. It actually cost me about ?4 (7 ish euros), for the postage to PalmOne. I sent it special delivery which was insured. So yea, I had to pay to send it to them, but everything else was free...
